Townsville has over 300 Parks and Open Space Areas which council are responsible for. These parks provide a range of recreational and sporting opportunities for both residents and visitors. On average over 350 ceremonies are held in Townsville Parkland every year.

Anzac Park

Anzac Park is located at the eastern end of the Strand Foreshore, at the frontage to the Breakwater marina. It is Townsville’s premier memorial park.

Aplins Weir Rotary Park

A recreation node along the Ross River Parkway shared pedestrian and bicycle pathway system, the park contains a range of playground equipment and facilities which are suitable for use by disabled children.

A designated limited free tent and vehicle camping area with an attractive freshwater creek swimming area next to the park. The restored Rollingstone Railway Station is filled with historical mementos of the area.

Townsville Town Common Conservation Park

The park’s wildlife viewing areas and walking and mountain bike trails offer a range of nature-based recreation activities close to the centre of Townsville. The park features deep-water lagoons and seasonal wetlands, coastal woodlands and vine thickets, and sheltered beaches fringed by rocky headlands. Summer rains transform the area into an immense wetland, attracting large flocks of waterbirds. Hike across Many Peak Range, enjoy expansive island views while riding the Under the radar mountain bike trail or walk the trail to enjoy a picnic in beautiful secluded Shelley Beach. For birdwatchers, the park is a paradise! From bird hides and observation points, watch flocks of magpie geese, brolgas, finches, wrens and cisticolas; up to 280 species have been recorded here.
