Budget-Friendly Bathroom Makeover

Janet Coon from Shabby Fufu wanted a more functional and elegant master bathroom. Read on for how she found the perfect, budget-friendly solution to her bathroom makeover at The Home Depot.

Budget-Friendly Bathroom Makeover

When my husband and I purchased our home years ago we had a tiny master bathroom that we knew wouldn’t suit our needs. Shortly after we moved into our home we were able to add a new master bedroom and bathroom, but it had all become well worn over the years. Styles and needs change and not only was the bathroom tired looking, but it had issues in functionality that we wanted to address.

We started planning and finally were able to renovate the bathroom and give it that luxe look for less that we wanted! With the room facing the north side of our home, our primary vision was to keep everything white and bright. I use the master bathroom as a haven and retreat and it’s an important room to keep updated for possible resale in the future.

Here’s how the design process worked for us and how I selected some of the important elements of the bathroom makeover.

Choosing Floor And Wall Tile

I took my cues from a few luxury hotels with elegant marble bathrooms that I’ve stayed in over the years. When I wasn’t sure if I actually wanted the care of marble, I was excited to find a nice selection of porcelain tile at The Home Depot. The first option that I chose was the tile that would go on the floors and the walls of the shower and behind the tub. The large format Porcelain Floor and Wall Tile was perfect and resembles marble for a classic look.

Starting from the ground up I knew that this porcelain tile would reflect light and be easy to care for. Porcelain tile is perfect for shower walls as well in a bathroom. With the clean modern look of this large format tile we went all the way up the entire back wall. With the dated wall mirrors removed from the tub area we found that we actually LOVE the white marble look porcelain tile that is beautifully reflective!

We went down to the studs in this bathroom to remove the old tile. I wanted a larger shower niche then we previously had with two shelves to accommodate tall bottles of shampoo. To keep the clean lines flowing on the wall we used the same tile in the shower box.

The Flooring

The floor tile is easy to maintain and I love white because you can actually see where any dirt is. That makes it easy to clean and this tile really has the look of marble!

Choosing Shower Floor Tile

We knew that we wanted to be practical with this bathroom remodel. The shower floor needed to have something that would not be slippery and easy to maintain. To break up the lines of the large format tile, we selected a hexagonal tile for the shower floor. We found just what we were looking for shopping on The Home Depot website with this Jeffrey Court Hexagonal Tile.

Selecting the Tub

Freestand tubs have been on my design radar for sometime now and our old tub was more than ready to be replaced. Seeking something modern and sleek, I found the gorgeous and roomy Delta Synergy Freestanding Tub and it was just the right fit for the space. It’s roomy for a comforting soak at the end of the day and now I love my bathroom so much!

We kept the existing cabinets, painted them and installed new hardware. The bathroom looks so bright and beautiful with a fresh coat of paint and all of the new tile!
