University Of Toronto Now Offering A Course On Self-Driving Cars
Self-driving cars appear to be the way of the future, and even if they are not, teaching a vehicle on how to be autonomous, look out for obstacles, and navigate its way around certainly has a number of possibilities attached to it. It seems like a field that could expand in the future, so much so that the University of Toronto has decided to start offering a course on self-driving cars.
Speaking to Digital Trends, University of Toronto Professor Steven Waslander said that the reason behind starting up this course was in acknowledgement that this is a growing field, and that there doesn’t seem to be much introductory materials about it. “It’s pretty clear that it’s an exploding area, and there’s not a lot of introductory material.”
The course is mostly aimed at engineering students and will cover topics such as how to build digital maps, computer vision, how to write software that helps the car drive, and so on. At the end of the course, students are expected to be able to design a virtual car that can drive itself around a simulated track.
It’s not surprising to see such courses being offered up in schools these days. For example given how import coding has become, schools are starting to introduce it into their curriculums, and more companies are creating toys and educational materials that will teach kids about programming at a young age.
