P2I’s “Dunkable” Tech Makes ANY Phone 100% Waterproof

Water-proof phones are now fairly common. Most handsets, whether you’re talking iPhones or Android, can withstand a dip in the drink.
Not ALL phones are water-proof though, despite the fact that water-proofing is one of the top features people look for when buying a new phone.
Enter P2I’s New”Dunkable” Water-Proofing Technology
P2I has just launched a new initiative that aims to speed up the implementation of waterproofing; it’s called P2I Dunkable – and it’ll make any phone IPX8 water-resistant.
Ady Moores, CEO, P2i said: “Dunkable is a world-first and represents a step change in the level of waterproofing available to handset manufacturers.”
“The launch means that for the first time OEMs have access to the most advanced water protection capabilities that can be rolled out on virtually all form factors…not just the usual square designs.”
He added: “Its launch marks the next generation of ‘Protected by P2i’ products, where we will have the ability to treat over half a billion smartphones in 2019 alone.”
How Does P2I’s Dunkable Coating Work?
Dunkable is applied by the OEM (the phone maker) and can be done after the fact, meaning the design does not have to be comprised. That means no more ugly rubber plugs and things like that.
The big idea is simple: phone brands can make and design their phones and THEN add water-proofing to them with Dunkable.
This saves OEMs money on development costs. In addition to this, Dunkable can be reapplied very easily by repair specialists if a phone is compromised (like if its screen breaks).
“Devices treated with P2i’s Dunkable passed both the IEC IPX8, according to P2I, “with no corrosion observed after 0 and 24 hours; and salt-fog tests (2 hrs 5% salt spray, 22 hrs @ 50oC, 95% relative humidity) .”
The phone, when fully submerged, will still function as well, as you can see in the video below:
Is It Just For Phones?
No, P2I will focus on smartphones to begin with but Dunkable will work on all types of consumer electronics, including tables and wearables as well as industrial-sized units and machines.
All products that utilize the technology will come with a “protected by P2I” label.
The first batch of phones protected by Dunkable will be landing inside the first half of 2019.
