The New Motorola Razr Might Have Mid-Range Specs

Could that mean mass-market appeal?
The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X may be getting all of the attention right now thanks to their innovative designs and cutting-edge specs, but they're going to be insanely expensive phones – we're talking £2,000 or more, which is twice what you'd expect to pay for a top-of-the-line handset these days.
For that reason, many experts are predicting that these devices will have limited impact on the smartphone market, at least in 2019. However, that doesn't mean people who are interested in folding phones won't have any reasonably-priced options, at least if a new leak is to be believed.
According to XDA Developers, the rumoured Motorola Razr V4 – 2019's other big folding phone – will ship with mid-range specs rather than bleeding edge hardware. It's expected to pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor, around 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The battery will apparently be 2,730mAh in capacity.
Previous rumours have stated that the Razr V4 will have a premium price tag, and that may still be the case, but given the middling specs it might also be worth expecting a somewhat cheaper device – perhaps in line with the cost of a S10 Plus or iPhone XS. While that's not 'cheap' as such, it would make joining the folding phone party a little bit easier to stomach.
Motorola has yet to officially reveal its plans for the Razr revival, but we'd imagine there will be an announcement sooner rather than later, especially as the company will want to cash-in on the current interest for folding devices. Who knows, Motorola could end up having 2019's best-selling folding device, especially if the nostalgia for the iconic Razr brand proves strong enough. The original device was arguably the iPhone of its day thanks to its ultra-thin design and top-line specs; even by modern standards, the original Razr looks fantastic. Motorola will no doubt be hoping that those drop-dead gorgeous looks will help this new device win over consumers.
