James Gunn’s ‘Suicide Squad’ Will Be A ‘Total Reboot’

DCEU’s Suicide Squad had a lot of promise in its premise, but unfortunately the movie wasn’t particularly well-received when it was released. We know that a sequel is in the works but apparently it won’t be a direct sequel to the first movie. Instead it is expected to be a “total reboot” of Suicide Squad.

This is according to Producer Peter Safran who spoke to Joblo who said, “First of all, we don’t call it Suicide Squad 2 ‘cause it’s a total reboot, so it’s The Suicide Squad and I think people should be extremely excited about it. It’s everything you would hope from a James Gunn script and I think that says a lot and that promises a lot and I know that we will deliver a lot.”

As Safran mentions, Gunn will be directing the upcoming Suicide Squad movie. Given his experience at putting rag-tag teams of “heroes” together like in Guardians of the Galaxy, we reckon that he could do a good job with the new Suicide Squad movie. It is expected that Margot Robbie will be returning to reprise her role as Harley Quinn, and more recently there were rumors that actor Idris Elba could replace Will Smith as Deadshot due to scheduling conflicts on Smith’s end.

The movie is currently pegged for a release in 2021 which means that there is still quite a long ways to go, but with it being a reboot and with Gunn directing, we are definitely looking forward to it.
