Amazon Wants To Challenge Apple’s AirPods With Alexa-Enabled Headphones
Despite being made fun of in terms of its design, price, and features, Apple’s AirPods have been flying off the shelves, so much so that companies such as Google decided to get in on the action with the Pixel Buds, and Samsung with the Galaxy Buds. Now in a report from Bloomberg, Amazon wants a slice of that lucrative pie.
The report claims that Amazon is working on their own “hearables” and that one of the models in the works is a set of true wireless earbuds similar to the AirPods. As expected of Amazon, these headphones will feature Alexa integration, meaning that all the Alexa skills that you’re used to will be accessible from the earbuds themselves.
We reckon that this will give Amazon an advantage over other products like the Galaxy Buds. This is because of how Alexa has managed to find its way into so many homes in America, where countless smart products are all linked and controllable by it. This means that instead of getting a device like the Echo, users can walk around in their home with their headphones and control their smart locks, their lights, and more.
There is no word on when Amazon’s Alexa earbuds will be launching nor how much it will cost, but as Bloomberg notes, Amazon typically undercuts the competition so with the AirPods priced starting at $159, there is a chance that Amazon’s own offerings could be cheaper.
