Apple Rumored To Launch 6.1 And 6.5 Inch iPhones This Year

A new report makes some claims about Apple’s 2019 iPhone lineup. It had previously been rumored that the new iPhones would be direct successors tot he iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max from last year. However, the new report claims that in addition to spec improvements for the XR and XS, Apple will also be launching two new models with 6.1 inch and 6.5 inch OLED displays.

Macotakara reports, citing supply chain sources form China, that these two new iPhone models will be designed with the rumored triple camera system in mind. It thus seems that the expansion of the iPhone lineup has been linked with the introduction of the triple camera system.

The report adds that the lenses on the camera system will be the largest ever for an iPhone with an even bigger sensor size. This should bring about an improvement in the imaging department, at least from a purely hardware perspective. This would obviously mean that the camera module will be a bigger component itself compared to the ones before it.

Apple is rumored to be making the chassis thinner on these models in order to offset the increase in the camera bump. So the 6.1 inch model should sit between the 5.8 inch iPhone XS and 6.1 inch iPhone XR while the 6.5 inch OLD model could be just a hair thicker than the iPhone XS Max.

None of this has been officially confirmed by Apple so take it with a grain of salt. Apple isn’t due to unveil its new iPhones until the fall this year.
