Would You Pay $3,000 To Rent Movies As Soon As They Hit Theaters?
That’s a question that Red Carpet Films asked itself when creating its first-run film rental service for the uber wealthy. While the rest of us might subscribe to services like MoviePass for discounted tickets, there is a market where people are willing to pay thousands of dollars just so they can watch the latest movies as soon as they hit theaters. Imagine watching Godzilla: King of the Monsters in the theater in your basement the moment it opens across theaters.
Red Carpet Films was founded by the ex-CEO of Ticketmaster Fred Rosen and Dan Fellman who is considered to be a film distribution expert in Hollywood. Clearly, these guys know what they’re talking about. They have managed to convince major studios like Warner Bros., Fox Searchlight, Paramount, Lionsgate, Annapurna, and 20th Century Fox to sign contracts in order to distribute their films through the service.
The company will enable customers who have a minimum credit card limit of $50,000 to watch movies like Shazam! as soon as they are released in theaters for rental prices ranging from $1,500 to $3,000. The rentals will be good for two viewings in a 36 hour period. Not anyone with a hefty credit card limit can get in, though.
All customers will go through a strict application process and will also have to purchase a $15,000 box that has privacy safeguards. This box then hooks up to their home theater system and lets them rent first run films.
