YouTube Confirms Development Of Original Interactive Programming
Choose your own adventure style books have been around for a long time, but in recent years, Netflix has brought that onto our screens with their interactive shows for kids, and last year they made headlines with the launch of Black Mirror Bandersnatch that brought interactive shows to a wider audience.
The company has plans to make more similar shows in the future, but it seems that YouTube won’t be letting Netflix hog all the glory. Speaking to Bloomberg, Susanne Daniels, YouTube’s head of original programming has revealed that the company is working on developing their own original interactive programming.
According to Daniels, “We now have amazing new tools and opportunities to create and tell multilayered and interactive stories. Ben [Relles] has an intuitive and experienced understanding of how the platform can enhance content, making him the perfect choice to develop this exciting new division.”
We’re not sure what kind of shows we might be able to expect from YouTube just yet, but if you do enjoy the concept of interactive television, it could be worth keeping an eye out for. What’s interesting about this is that just last month, it was reported that YouTube would be scaling back on their original content, but based on the newer report, it sounds like the company is exploring different strategies.
