Walmart To Add More Robots To Their Stores
It’s hard to deny the impact that online retailers such as Amazon have had on your more traditional brick and mortar retailers. Companies such as Walmart have no doubt been affected, but the company has been working on ways to try and get around this. For example, they have been letting customers place orders and pay online while in their stores.
They have explored the idea of using autonomous vehicles for grocery deliveries, and they have even looked into introducing robots to its stores to help perform certain tasks. Now it looks like Walmart will be expanding the presence of robots in its stores. This will come in the form of several robots that can perform a variety of tasks, including keeping the floors of its stores clean, shelf scanners, a sorting and unloading robot, and a robot that can automatically pick up items based on orders made online.
According to John Crecelius, senior vice president of Central Operations for Walmart, “Our associates immediately understood the opportunity for the new technology to free them up from focusing on tasks that are repeatable, predictable and manual. It allows them time to focus more on selling merchandise and serving customers, which they tell us have always been the most exciting parts of working in retail.”
As we said, Walmart is no stranger to embracing technology as previously they have also explored the idea of using virtual reality to help train staff members.
