Facebook Messenger App For Desktop Coming This Year

Facebook Messenger has seen incredible improvement and growth ever since Facebook made the decision to unbundle it from the main app. The functionality has been enhanced considerably over the past few years and the company is now fulfilling a consistent demand from users. It’s going to release a dedicated Facebook Messenger app for the desktop.

Facebook confirmed at its F8 conference today that it’s going to bring its super popular messaging client to both Windows and Mac this year. Currently, most people who want to access
Facebook Messenger on their desktop do so using the web browser.

It’s no surprise that the app is coming so much later after the mobile apps. They obviously have first priority in this day and age when mobile devices far outnumber computers. However, the Facebook Messenger app for Windows and Mac will serve as yet another avenue for the company to ensure that people spend their time inside its ecosystem throughout their day.

“People want to seamlessly message from any device, and sometimes they just want a little more space to share and connect with the people they care about most,” Facebook said of the app in a statement. The app will get all of the familiar functionality which includes group video calls, audio calls, and more.
