The 18,000mAh Energizer Smartphone Is A Crowdfunding Flop
Some of you might remember that earlier this year, an Energizer-branded smartphone, known as the Energizer Power Max P18K, was unveiled at MWC 2019 where it came with a massive 18,000mAh battery. It generated a ton of interest, for sure, and the company behind it, Avenir Telecom who licensed the Energizer brand, decided to launch it on Indiegogo.
Unfortunately, it seems that the phone turned out to be a flop. The project managed to raise $15,005, falling extremely shy of its goal of $1.2 million. With a price tag of $549, it basically meant that the campaign only had about 11 backers, suggesting that despite the massive 18,000mAh battery, it was more novelty than anything.
According to its funding page, it was an all-or-nothing crowdfunding campaign where it either gets fully funded and production begins, or it fails and nothing gets made. It is possible that Avenir could simply have used Indiegogo to promote the handset and generate a bit of buzz before moving onto production themselves, but we wouldn’t get our hopes up just yet.
Some of the other specs of the phone include the use of MediaTek’s Helio P70 chipset, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. There was even a dual rear-facing camera on the back, and a dual front-facing popup camera.
