Google Confirms There Will Be More Affordable Pixel Phones

Google has launched its first affordable Pixel phones today as the Pixel 3a and the Pixel 3a XL. These devices have been rumored for a long time and they were finally unveiled today. The company’s design team has also revealed that these are not one-off devices and that Google will make more affordable Pixel phones in the future.

The folks at Google confirmed to AndroidPolice that there will be more affordable versions of Pixel smartphones in the future. One would presume that we may see an annual release for these handsets as well like we do for the premium Pixel models.

This also means that the differences between the affordable and flagship models could grow wide in the future. They’re limited on the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3a. For example, the rear camera is the same on both models, having that level of imaging prowess on a device that starts at $399 is astonishing to say the least.

There’s an expectation that Google might finally switch to a multi-lens setup with the Pixel 4 and if that were to be the case, we may not see that trickle down to the Pixel 4a next year. That would put the Pixel 4 at a serious risk of cannibalization by the more affordable model.

All of this is just speculation right now, though, but the one thing we can be sure about is that there will certainly be more cheaper Pixel phones in the future.
