SanDisk’s First 1TB MicroSD Card Now Available For Purchase
Western Digital’s SanDisk announced the launch of its first 1TB microSD card at the Mobile World Congress 2019 in February this year. The company had said back then that it would begin selling the microSD card in the next couple of months. If you’ve been waiting for it to arrive, rejoice, because you can now purchase it from the company’s website.
According to Western Digital, the 1 terabyte SanDisk UHS-I microSDXC can achieve 160MB/s read speed and 90MB/s write speed. It certainly offers a lot of storage space than you can possibly utilize on a smartphone. The microSD card is better suited to media professionals, for example, who need to move around with copious amounts of media.
As you can probably imagine, it’s not exactly a cheap product. You can get the 1TB microSD card from SanDisk’s own website for $450. That’s more than what you’d expect to pay for a decent mid-range smartphone. Then again, you do get what you pay for.
It’s obviously not a good proposition for the average consumer just yet, not until the prices come down significantly. The next best option right now with a significant amount of storage is SanDisk’s own 512GB microSD card. Sure, you get half the storage, but the transfer speeds are the same and it’s much more attainable at $200.
