Apple Reportedly Investing $500 Million Towards Apple Arcade
Last month Apple announced a new game subscription service called Apple Arcade. For a fixed monthly price, gamers would be able to access premium paid-for titles that would be exclusive to the platform in a bid to try and get people to sign up for it. Th e titles part of the store are also expected to be largely new titles as well, instead of just rehashing existing paid-for games.
That being said, it’s not surprising that Apple would need to spend a lot of money to try and court developers over to its side, which according to a report from the Financial Times, is said to have cost the company $500 million where they are apparently investing millions of dollars for about 100 or so titles.
These games, as we said, are pitched as being exclusive to Apple Arcade and Apple’s iOS devices. Apple has been rumored to offer extra incentives to developers to keep its games exclusive to the platform, but at the same time, these developers are free to develop their games for other platforms like the PC and console, so basically just no Android devices.
Apple has yet to officially announce pricing for Apple Arcade yet but hopefully it won’t be too expensive. Apple Arcade is also one of several new subscriptions that Apple has launched, including Apple TV+ and Apple News+.
