Google Duplex On The Web Can Book Rental Cars For You
Google introduced its Duplex technology for the Assistant at I/O last year. It lets the Assistant call up businesses on your behalf for things like restaurant reservations. The AI can actually speak to the person on the other end on your behalf. Google is now expanding this technology to the web so that the AI can also perform other trivial tasks on your behalf, such as booking a rental car online.
Duplex’s ability to book you a table at your favorite restaurant has already been expanded to many states and even non-Pixel devices across the country. Google says that it has received positive feedback from those who are using it as well as local businesses.
With Duplex on the web, the Assistant will be able to help you complete a task online. For example, when you book a rental car online, you have to navigate multiple pages and input a lot of data. Assistant will automate that for you.
Just tell Assistant to “Book a car with national for my next trip.” Not only will it pull up all the relevant details from your calendar and Gmail, it will also input all of the relevant information for the booking on the rental car company’s website. It will always keep you in control of the flow by allowing you to recheck the information.
So the entire procedure is condensed to just a few taps. This works across multiple providers as Google doesn’t need the rental car company to work with it in order to enable Duplex on the web to do this. Google says that Duplex on the web will be available in the United States and the United Kingdom on Android phones later this year for booking rental cars and movie tickets.
