Here’s What Motorola’s Folding Razr Looks Like

While Samsung and Huawei are stealing column inches with their respective folding phones, rival firm Motorola has been keeping its cards close to its chest regarding its planning Razr revival, which is rumoured to use a folding screen.

Now, it would appear we've been given the first look at this groundbreaking device thanks to a leak. Press renders which claim to show the Motorola RAZR V4 were posted (and then deleted) on Chinese social networking site Weibo. They've since been re-uploaded elsewhere and give us our best look yet at this upcoming handset.

The big news is that it's a vertically-folding device, rather than one that folds horizontally (as is the case with the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X). This has clearly been done to make the device look as close to the original Razr V3 as possible, but it means that instead of getting a tablet-like design when the phone is open, you're getting a long and thin display instead. There's also a notch at the top of the screen.

The images also show the phone's distinctive packaging as well as some other items, including what appears to be a wireless charging stand. There's no way of knowing from these images if the Razr V4 has a second screen on the outside, but we'd imagine that to be very likely as the original V3 had one back in the early 2000s.

With a rumoured price tag of $1500, the Razr V4 is going to be in a similar price bracket to its rivals, but it will benefit from the incredible degree of nostalgia the general public has for the iconic Razr design. It remains to be seen if these rose-tinted memories can turn the V4 into a success; if it can sell even a fifth of what the Razr V3 managed, then Motorola will have reason to be very pleased indeed.

As for a release date, that's anyone's guess at the moment. Motorola has previously hinted that it would be launching the phone around the same time as its rivals, so that could be any day now. However, the company is yet to officially lift the lid on the Razr V4, so we could see it launching a little after Samsung and Huawei's efforts.
