How To Block Emails On Gmail

Nobody likes receiving spam emails, but thankfully Google’s Gmail email platform has done a pretty good job with spam filters. But, from time to time, there are spam emails that somehow slip past those filters, or maybe there are emails from people that you no longer want to receive, so here’s how you can go about blocking emails on Gmail.

Unsubscribe From Mass Emails

Sometimes we need to receive emails from certain senders, such as retailers, to let us know when our orders are shipped or confirmed. This means that blocking emails from those senders or marking them as spam is probably not the best idea, so using Gmail’s unsubscribe feature is probably the best option.

Computer

  1. Go to Gmail
  2. Open the email you want to unsubscribe from
  3. Next to the sender’s name, click the link that says Unsubscribe
  4. Click the Unsubscribe button to confirm

iPhone And iPad

  1. Launch the Gmail app
  2. Open the email you want to unsubscribe from
  3. Tap the three dots icon at the top right corner of the app
  4. Select Unsubscribe
  5. Click the Unsubscribe button to confirm

Android

  1. Launch the Gmail app
  2. Open the email you want to unsubscribe from
  3. Tap the three dots icon at the top right corner of the app
  4. Select Unsubscribe
  5. Click the Unsubscribe button to confirm

Once you have unsubscribed, you should stop receiving those promotional emails and newsletters from such senders. However, there will be instances where the Unsubscribe feature is unavailable. If that is the case, you will need to either block the sender by following the instructions above or mark it as spam.
