How To Cancel Your Apple News+ Subscription

Here’s how to cancel after your 30-day free trial.
I’ve long been a HUGE fan of the Apple News app. The app was first introduced in iOS 9 way back in 2015 and has gone through several iterations since then. At its most basic, the Apple News app is a news aggregator: is pulls articles and stories from multiple sources and serves them up to you based on your interests.
Apple News wasn’t the first to do this, of course. Apps like Flipboard have been doing the news aggregation thing for a long time. But I always found Apple New more attractive because of its beautiful design and ease of use.
Earlier this year Apple took News one step further by launching a subscription service. To be clear, Apple News IS NOT a paid app. You can still use the Apple News app and read thousands of articles for free.
But Apple New’s new subscription service, called Apple News+, allows you to access more content from more sources. It gives subscribers access to over 300 popular magazines, leading newspapers and digital publishers including Vogue, National Geographic Magazine, People, ELLE, The Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times, and more.
Apple News+ is available in Canada and the United States to start, with a subscription costing $9.99 USD per month. Subscribers can access their News+ subscription on Mac, iPhone, and iPad. As with most subscriptions, Apple offers everyone a free 30-day trial when they sign up.
After the first 30-days, you’ll be billed the $9.99 monthly fee to continue accessing premium content—unless you cancel. Though I’m a fan of the Apple News app, I haven’t seen a lot of content on Apple New+ that make it worth paying for for me.
So if you’re like me, you’ll want to go ahead and cancel the service before you get billed for your first month’s payment. There are actually THREE ways you can do that. Here’s how:
How To Cancel Apple News+ Subscription: In the Apple News App
- Open the Apple News app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap on the Following tab at the bottom of the screen.
- Scroll to the bottom of the Following screen and tap Manage Subscriptions.
- Now tap Cancel Free Trial, then confirm your selection.
How To Cancel Apple News+ Subscription: In the App Store App
- Open the App Store app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap on your profile icon in the top-right corner.
- Enter your Apple ID password, if requested.
- On the following screen, tap Manage Subscriptions.
- Tap Apple News+ from the list of active subscriptions.
- Now tap Cancel Free Trial, then confirm your selection.
How To Cancel Apple News+ Subscription: On The Mac
- Open the Apple News app on your Mac.
- Under the File menu, click Manage Subscriptions.
- A sheet containing a list of your active app subscriptions will appear. Find Apple News+ and click Edit.
- Now click Cancel Free Trial, then confirm your selection.
After you cancel your free trial you’ll lose access to all the premium Apple News+ content immediately. But don’t worry, the good ol’ Apple News app will still work as normal, allowing you to access all the free content you want.
