Idris Elba Might Replace Will Smith As Deadshot In Suicide Squad Sequel
Despite getting panned by critics, it is expected that there will be a sequel to Suicide Squad and with director James Gunn behind the movie and with his success with the Guardians of the Galaxy series, the sequel could prove to be pretty good. Now it seems that there could be a shakeup in the lineup as well.
According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, it seems that there are talks about actor Idris Elba potentially replacing Will Smith as Deadshot in the movie. It was previously reported that Smith would not be returning for the sequel due to scheduling conflicts, and now it seems that Elba could be in the running to replace him.
In fact it feels like it could almost be a guarantee that Elba could be taking up the role as both Gunn and executives at Warner Bros. were pretty deadset on having him in the movie. It also turns out that Warner is so excited about the script that Gunn has written that they’re moving things along pretty quickly.
The movie will be titled “The Suicide Squad” and apart from Deadshot and Harley Quinn, the other characters from the previous movie may not be returning. Some say that Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag could be in it, while others say he won’t. The movie is currently set for a release on the 6th of August, 2021, so there is still quite a long ways to go before we see it.
