Introducing: Helly Hansen
From their home in Norway, Helly Hansen have been creating professional grade gear for almost 140 years. Starting in 1877, Helly Juell Hansen, a sea captain, wanted a better way to stay protected from the harsh Norwegian seas. Hansen and his wife launched a business selling waterproof oilskin waterproof jackets, trousers sou’westers and tarpaulins. This innovative idea of combining linseed oil and coarse linen was the beginning of Helly Hansen.
Worn and trusted by professionals on oceans, mountains and worksites, Helly Hansen has certainly grown over the years. The number one brand for ski professionals and often found in the majority of ski resorts. Their sailing gear is also worn by world class sailors across the world and Helly Hansen is the leading Scandinavian workwear brand.
From the oil soaked fabric produced in 1877 came Helox in 1949. Helox was a thin sheet of translucent PVC plastic sewn into coats to make them waterproof. The next innovation came in 1961 when Fiberpile, the technical midlayer was invented. In 1970 came the birth of the technical base layer, Lifa.
Helly Tech
Helly Tech was produced in 1984, the waterproof and breathable solution. Winning awards and setting a new standard for performance and protection. 2016, the latest innovation saw the Elevation jacket created. The most award-winning jacket combines a new Helly Tech professional fabric with the H2 flow temperature regulating system creating the ultimate freeride jacket.
Helly Hansen has come a long way from the oil soaked fabric and sewn in plastic that began the journey. Now celebrating 140 years of innovation, Helly Hansen is the ultimate gear to wear whether you’re on roughest sea or the highest mountain, or even just walking around the British countryside.
