Samsung rolls out January update for Galaxy S7 and Galaxy Note 8

Samsung rolls out today the security update of January for the Galaxy S7, S7 Edge and Galaxy Note 8. On all devices you can install the update now if you have a Dutch or Belgian unbranded variant.

It is now almost three years ago that the Galaxy S7 in the Dutch shops appeared. And also now gets the unit back right on time the monthly security patch. For the S7 and S7 Edge rolls out updates to the firmware versions G930FXXS3ERLF and G935FXXS3ERLF.

In the January patch contains 30 improvements for the security of the Android operating system of the Galaxy S7. In addition, there are also three fixes for Samsung’s own software – two of them sealed a possible leak into Wi-Fi connections. A fourth Samsung-specific fix that on other Galaxy phones is installed, it is not relevant for the (processor of the) Galaxy S7.

Availability

The new update directly OTA (Over The Air) available on unbranded Dutch PHN) and Belgian (LUX) S7 and S7 the Edge models. If you use your phone directly from Vodafone, T-Mobile or Proximus purchased, then you have a branded device. For these models, the update at the time of writing not yet available.

Also for the Galaxy Note 8 as of now, the update of January ready for installation. Please note: it is not yet to the Android 9.0 upgrade, but only to the deployment of the latest security patch. A spacious 560MB major update brings firmware N950FXXS5CSA2 to the device.

The patch contains the same improvements that we have already described: 30 fixes for the Android OS, and three pcs for Samsung’s own applications. That is, of course, besides the known improvements in every update, such as performance improvements and any bug fixes.

Availability

The update is now OTA available on the Dutch unbranded Galaxy Note 8. Also on Belgian aircraft with country code LUX you can install, all you need there is at this moment Smart Switch for use. Later today will undoubtedly be OTA downloadable. As often is the update not yet, but will soon be, available for the branded phones from Vodafone, T-Mobile, and Proximus.

On both the Galaxy S7 as on the Note 8 will the download of the update sooner or later by itself start. If you want to check whether he is already ready for your device, then go through Settings to Software update, and then tap Updates download manually.
