Sonos Speakers Get Google Assistant Next Week
Sonos has been beta testing Google Assistant support for some of its smart speakers for a few months now. It’s finally done with that and will now be rolling out support for the digital personal assistant to compatible models for all users. The company has confirmed that the Sonos One and Sonos Beam smart speakers will receive support for Google Assistant next week.
The confirmation came from Sonos CEO Patrick Spence in the company’s recent quarterly earnings letter to its shareholders. It said that Google Assistant will be launched on the aforementioned devices for all users next week. It will initially be available to users in the United States and that the support will be extended to more markets across the globe in the next few months.
“This feature will truly elevate the customer experience and marks the first time that consumers will be able to buy a single smart speaker and get to choose which voice assistant they want to use,” said Spence. For those who are unaware, the Sonos One and Sonos Beam both have support for Amazon Alexa out of the box.
It’s good to see that Sonos is finally following through on its promise. The company had actually confirmed Google Assistant support for the Sonos One speaker when it was first unveiled back in October 2017.
