Sony Reportedly Shifting Focus To First-Party PS5 Titles

According to the rumors, Sony’s PlayStation 5 console could already be in development. Some believe that it could be announced possibly next year (there are some who claim this year but it seems doubtful). If the rumors are true, then we can’t say we’re surprised to learn that Sony might be shifting focus towards development of first-party titles for the console already.

This is according to Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad (via VG247) who claims that Sony’s first-party studios are already working on games for the PS5. In his post on ResetEra, “In general, most of the focus for Sony [first-party] is on PS5 right now. It is still early to talk about next gen but I imagine we’ll hear some whispers come out of GDC.”

It has been noted that Ahmad has a pretty solid track record and reputation for insider information, so there is a chance that he might be right. The success of consoles largely depends on the games that are available at launch. Nintendo’s Switch is a prime example where The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was believed to have played a big role in getting gamers to adopt the console at launch.

However when exactly the PS5 will launch remains to be seen, and what kind of specs and features we might be able to expect is also anyone’s guess, so take it with a grain of salt for now.
