The iPhone X Was 2018’s Best-Selling Smartphone In The World

In 2017, Apple introduced the iPhone X which marked the first redesign to the iPhone in a few years. It also marked the first time that the base iPhone model was priced $1,000 and higher. You would think that this price tag would deter customers from purchasing the handset, but it seems that was not the case.

According to the latest figures from Counterpoint Research, they have found that the iPhone X was actually the best-selling smartphone in the world for the year 2018. Previously, it had been reported that the iPhone X was the best-selling smartphone for Q1 2018, but it looks like the handset has managed to hold onto its spot for the entire year.

Taking a look at the global market share, it appears that Apple’s iPhones are dominating with the iPhone 8 coming in second place, and the iPhone 8 Plus coming in third. We do see some other brands such as Xiaomi and Samsung, but for the most part the top ten smartphones are all from Apple.

What’s interesting is that we don’t see any smartphones from other brands such as Huawei, despite the fact that Huawei actually overtook Apple as being the second largest smartphone seller. That being said, it is possible that while Huawei could sell more phones than Apple overall, they might not necessarily have a single model that sells as well as the iPhone, at least based on the numbers we’re seeing.
