Uber Eats Gets Apple Pay In Over A Dozen Markets
It has been possible to pay for an Uber through Apple Pay since 2014 but this payment option hasn’t been available in Uber’s food delivery app called Uber Eats. That’s changing today as Uber has announced that it will now be possible to pay for your Uber Eats order with Apple Pay. Users will authenticate their transactions using Touch ID or Face ID instead of having to fill out their billing information in the app.
Apple Pay already powers payments in several popular apps such as Airbnb, Staples, Lyft, Fandango, Groupon, and many more. Some of Uber Eats’ competitors already have support for this payment service as well, such as Seamless and Grubhub.
It’s about time that Uber Eats jumped on the bandwagon and it’s doing just that now. Apple Pay will be available to Uber Eats customers in the coming weeks in almost 20 markets. They include Belgium, Canada, France, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, the United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and United States.
Uber highlights the security and privacy of Apple Pay, pointing out that when a credit or debit card is used with the service, the actual card numbers aren’t stored or the device nor on Apple’s services. A unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted and securely stored in the device’s Secure Element instead. Each transaction is then authorized with a one-time unique dynamic security code.
