Uber Riders Can Now Indicate Their Preference For Less Chatty Drivers

While some people are just naturally sociable and have no problems chatting with everyone about anything and everything, others aren’t. In fact, some might find it uncomfortable making small talk with strangers. The good news is that if you’re not a fan of chatty Uber drivers, you can make your preferences known.

Uber has announced the launch of a new feature called Quiet Mode. This is a feature that will be free to users, but only applicable towards Uber Black and Uber Black SUV premium rides. Users will be able to choose between a “Quiet preferred” mode, “happy to chat”, or select “No preference” if they don’t really care.

Speaking to TechCrunch, Uber product manager Aydin Ghajar said, “We’re looking to create more differentiation between the premium products and the regular products to encourage more trips.” Ghajar adds that apparently quiet mode “is something that people have been asking for for a long time”.

It seems that the reason behind this feature being part of Uber Black is as Ghajar states, it acts as a way to differentiate the tiers. It also gives some customers the option of paying more if they’d rather sit in a car and rest while they get to their destination instead of having to make small talk with their drivers.
