Walmart Rolling Out Free One-Day Delivery

Walmart has announced that it’s rolling out free one-day delivery for customers in the United States. It will initially be available to customers in Las Vegas and Phoenix before being expanded to Southern California in the coming days. Walmart says that one-day free delivery will be rolled out gradually over the coming months. It plans to reach 75 percent of the U.S. population by the end of this year. This includes 40 of the top 50 major metro areas in the country.

Amazon has also been working to build the capacity which will enable it to provide one-day shipping on items. However, Amazon restricts that privilege to Prime members who pay an annual fee for the program. Walmart’s offering is a bit different. It promises free one-day delivery without any membership fee as long as the orders are of $35 or more.

The retail giant adds that the one-day delivery will be available on up to 220,000 items ranging from diapers to toys and electronics. Eligible items will obviously vary by customer location but the list will continue to grow in the future.

“We can offer fast, convenient shipping options because we’ve built a network of fulfillment assets that are strategically located across the U.S. We’ve also done extensive work to ensure we have the right products in the right fulfillment centers based on where customers are located and what they’re ordering,” said Walmart CEO Marc Lore.
