Warby Parker’s New AR System Lets You Try Glasses Virtually

Online glasses company Warby Parker has developed a new Virtual Try-On tool which will enable its customers to try on glasses virtually. They will be able to see the color, texture, and size of the glasses on offer, provided that they have an iPhone X, XS or XR. That’s because this feature has been developed using Apple’s ARKit and relies on the company’s TrueDepth camera technology.

Warby Parker has rolled out this feature to its iOS app this week. It uses the iPhone X’s augmented reality capabilities to essentially place a virtual model of the pair of glasses you’re interested in on your face.

You can move your head around to get an idea of the fit and style. This should address one of the main issues that people have with buying glasses online as it can often be difficult to ascertain just how a pair would look on the customer in real life.

Warby Parker says that its Virtual Try-On feature can provide accurate measurements of frames in addition to their color and texture. Some of its competitors have been offering similar features. For example, Ray-Ban has long allowed its customers to use the front camera on their device to see how a pair would look on them. Granted, the execution here seems to be better than the one I used on Ray-Ban’s website before purchasing my current pair of Clubmasters.
